"प्रत्येकाच्या आयुष्यात अनेक गोष्टी घडत असतात. अनेक अनुभवांना आपण सर्वजण सामोरं जात असतो. पण माझ्यासारखीचा गरीब, श्रीमंत अशा विविध वर्गातील लोकांशी सतत संबंध येत असतो. त्यामुळे माझ्या अनुभवांची क्षितिजं विस्तारित झालेली आहेत. आपलं मन संवेदनशील असेल, आपल्याला आपले विचार स्पष्टपणे, नि:पक्षपाती वृत्तीनं मांडता येत असतील, आपल्या अंगी सूक्ष्म निरिक्षण-शक्ती असेल तर आपल्यापैकी कोणालाही लिहिता येऊ शकतं. मीही केवळ तेवढंच केलं आहे. माझं काम ज्या प्रकारचं आहे, त्यामुळे मला विविध सामाजिक कार्यक्रमामधून वावरण्याची संधी मिळते. या पुस्तकातील 'मातृत्व' या कथेतील मीरा, 'फाळणी' या कथेतील रूपा कपूर, 'परदेशी' या कथेतील तक्षशीला या स्थळाला मी दिलेली भेट, 'स्वार्थ' या कथेतील सुनामीग्रस्तांबद्दल आलेले अनुभव... या आणि अशा काही गोष्टी फारच थोड्या व्यक्तींच्या आयुष्यात घडत असतील. माझ्या या सगळ्या अनुभवांना वाचकांकडून एवढी मागणी कशी काय... या अनुभवांचं एकवीस भारतीय भाषांमध्ये भाषांतर कसं झालं... या गोष्टीचं मला स्वत:लाच कधीतरी आश्चर्य वाटल्यावाचून राहात नाही. मग त्या प्रश्नाचं एकच उत्तर मला सापडतं... माझं लेखन खूप सरळ, साधं आहे आणि सगळ्यात महत्वाचं म्हणजे हे सगळेच्या सगळे अनभव खरेखुरे आहेत. कोणीही कितीही उच्चाधिकारपदी विराजमान असो, समाजातील स्थान काहीही असो, कितीही यश, कीर्ती, मानसन्मानाचे धनी असो, प्रत्येकाला सच्चेपणा नेहमीच मोहवून टाकतो. म्हणूनच आपल्या वाडवडिलांनी म्हटलंय.. 'सत्यम शिवम सुंदरम'. सुधा मूर्ती सर्वसामान्य माणसांच्या ठायी लेखिकेला दिसून आलेल्या असामान्य दातृत्वाच्या, नि:स्वार्थी वृत्तीच्या कथा यात आहेत. या कथांमधून मानवी स्वभाव आणि प्रवृत्तीच्या विविध पैलूंचं नेमकं चित्रण आपल्याला दिसतं.
